More about the Christchurch Gondola
Our 4-seat cabins are allocated per group to ensure exclusivity for your Gondola ride, and the changing weather and seasons mean a different view every time you visit. For frequent visitors we recommend our great-value Tram & Gondola Annual Pass – perfect for locals! Please note our cafe and Christchurch Discovery Ride close at 4:30pm.

The Base Station of the Gondola is nestled in Heathcote Valley where you will find plenty of parking for cars and coaches. The Summit Station – including the Red Rock Cafe, Christchurch Discovery Ride and gift shop – is at the top of Mt Cavendish. The Gondola trip up to the summit takes approximately 10 minutes, and we can stop the ride for guests requiring assistance, including wheelchairs (up to a maximum of 600mm in width). The cableway spans 862 horizontal metres and our Gondola cabins are very stable and comfortable, offering spectacular views in all directions.

Getting here
The Christchurch Gondola is just a 15-minute drive from central Christchurch, and a large carpark is available at the Gondola Base Station for customers to use free of charge.

Our Gondola Shuttle operates between Cathedral Square in the central city and the Christchurch Gondola during the summer season from October to March. The shuttle departs from Cathedral Square on the half hour from 9:30am until 3:30pm, and from the Christchurch Gondola on the hour from 10am until 4pm. Return and one-way tickets can be purchased from our Tram Hosts at Tram Stops 2 and 4, or from the driver (please note only card payments are accepted for onboard fares).

Transport to the Gondola is available on public bus number 8 year-round, departing from the Christchurch Bus Interchange between Lichfield and Tuam Streets behind The Crossing Complex. For those arriving at the Bus Interchange by tram, this is a short one-block walk from tram stops 5 and 8.
